Alex4D Transparent Blur - Free
A free Final Cut Pro X effect that adds an iOS 7-style overlay onto clips which is used as a text background.
Titles that show a modified part the clip in their backgrounds momentarily draw the audience's attention towards their text before attention returns to the subject of the shot.

This free plugin is for Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6 and newer (if your version is older, visit this post at blog.alex4d.com).
Thanks to Y-Love and Matt Davis for the use of their interview footage.
It slides an area from the bottom, top, left or right edge of the screen. The area is a blurred, reduced-contrast version of the clips it overlays.
You can choose to brighten or darken the background and control the amount of blurriness.
Edge Position controls how much of the clip is lightened and blurred. To set this easily there is an on screen control.
Animate From the bottom, left, top or right edge.
Brightness ranges from -100 to 100, this control darkens the background.
Blur ranges from 0 to 100.
Animate In and Animate Out determine whether the start or finish animations are shown.
Animation Time controls how quickly the area animates on and the text is faded on
Text Colour Although you can change this in the Text panel of the Title inspector, you can change it here as well
Show Edge Control If the edge control gets in the way, uncheck this box, deselect the title. When you select it again, the edge control will not appear.
To reposition the text, double-click it to select it and drag it to a new location.

This plugin is free to download and use, but if you'd like to show your appreciation for my work, please donate here:
Once installed, you’ll find it the Alex4D section of the Titles browser:
If when you try to run the installer you get a message stating it can't be opened "because it was not downloaded from the Mac App Store" - your Mac OS X security preferences are protecting you. To change them, or work around this, visit this post at blog.alex4d.com.
If when you apply this plugin, your Final Cut viewer turns blue, your version of Final Cut Pro X is older than 10.0.6, if you sign into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID that bought your copy, you can download the free update. If you can't do this, there is a workaround at this post at blog.alex4d.com.
